IELTS Academic Writing Task 1 | How to Describe a Map |




The International English Language Testing System, which is commonly known as the IELTS test, consists of 4 parts.
1. Listening
2. Reading
3 .Writing
4. Speaking
This video will be useful for the candidates who are going to attempt the IELTS academic test. There are two tasks in the IELTS academic writing test. We shall learn how to analyse the various landmarks on a map and how to represent them in the form of a report.
1. Task 1, which is a report.
2. Task 2 - an essay.
You should spend around 20 minutes of time to complete writing the first task. 33 percent of the overall writing score is due to this task. Hence, it is very important to accurately highlight an explain the significant points that you see.
The evaluation of the Writing task 1 is based on several marking criteria, which are known as BAND DESCRIPTORS.
Band descriptors:
a. Task achievement
b. Coherence and Cohesion
c. Lexical resource
d. Grammatical Range and Accuracy.

While writing a report based on a map, analyse these factors.
1. Look for the tense ( present, past or future). This can be done by looking at the title of the map. 
Based on this, there are two types of maps. a. A map in the present along with the map in the future.
                                                                      b. A map in the present along with a map in the past.
2. Write at least 150 words. 
3. Use a wide range of Vocabulary to describe what you see.
4. Remember that various types of sentence structures have to be used while writing.
5. Prepositions play a vital role in describing the exact location of various landmarks that you can see on a map.
6. Summarize the information properly and make comparisons where relevant.
7. Finally, follow an appropriate structure while writing.
