The IELTS test is divided into four parts.
1. Listening.
2. Reading
3. Writing
4. Speaking
In this video, we shall understand the format of the IELTS listening test, and the various question types in the test.
Some of the important points to remember while preparing for the listening test are:
1. It is the same test for both the academic and the general training modules.
2. The total test time is 30 minutes + 10 minutes
3. In the first 30 minutes, you will hear the audio. the last 10 minutes are given for transferring the answers on to the listening answer sheet.
4. The test mainly contains Objective type questions. There are a total of 40 questions in the IELTS listening test.
5. Read and understand the instructions properly.
6. Sometimes, you will hear some non-essential information. Avoid paying attention to such details as they may be misleading.
7. There is no negative marking for the test.
8. One mark will be given for every correct answer.
9. Take a guess if you are not sure of the answer.
10. Listen carefully for changes in the tone.
11. There are certain words which may indicate the change of the answers. Example : but, however, etc.
12. No not divert your attention.
13. Do not expect to find the exact words as given in the question. Synonyms will be used.
14. Read the instructions carefully for words and numbers.
      Example: write one word and/or a number.
The test consists of 4 sections.
1. Section 1 - Dialogue - Questions 1 to 10.
2. Section 2 - Monologue - Questions 11 to 20.
3. Section 3 - Academic discussion - Questions 21 to 30
4. Section 4 - University lecture - Questions 31 to 40.

1. Note completion 
2. Sentence completion
3. Form completion
4. Table completion
5. Diagram label completion
6. Flow – chart completion
7. Multiple choice questions with single option selection
8. Multiple choice questions with multiple option selection
9. Matching
10. Map labeling.
