In this video, you will get to learn about the BAND DESCRIPTORS which are the criteria used for the IELTS writing evaluation.
There are specific grading factors based on which a band score is awarded to the candidates.
The band descriptors for the IELTS writing task 1 ( for both the IELTS Academic as well as the IELTS General Training) test are:
1. Task Achievement
2. Coherence and Cohesion
3. Lexical Resource
4. Grammatical Range and Accuracy.
Each of these band descriptors will account for 25% of the score. 

The band descriptors for the writing task 2(essay) are:
1. Task Response
2. Coherence and Cohesion
3. Lexical resource
4. Grammatical Range and Accuracy.

1. Task Achievement: Fulfill the requirements of the task completely and appropriately.
2. Coherence: range of ideas that are relevant to the task ; Cohesion: Organise the ideas logically into paragraphs using COHESIVE DEVICES.

3. Lexical resource: Use a wide range of uncommon or less common lexical items (vocabulary) which are appropriate for the task. Use collocations appropriately.
4. Grammatical Range and Accuracy : Use a wide variety of sentence structures, such as
a. Simple sentences
b. Compound sentences
c. Complex sentences
d. Passive sentences
e. Conditional sentences
f. Complex-compound sentences

The IELTS test is divided in to four parts - Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking.
In the Writing test, you should complete two tasks. You will be given 60 minutes to complete the test. 
While the second task for both the academic and the general training test takers is an essay, the task 1 is different.
